The semicolon has become a symbol of suicide prevention because of what it represents in writing. A semicolon is used when a sentence could end, but the writer chooses to continue it instead.
In the same way, it has come to represent a moment in life where someone could have chosen to end their story. But didn’t. They paused. They continued.
